Resin Surfacing

Using a professional company is essential when having a resin bound driveway installed. This is to ensure the resin being used is SUDS compliant. SUDS, also known as ( Sustainable urban drainage system ) is about allowing the water to drain correctly through the substance into the ground or a correctly installed drainage system.

Driveway Resin Colours

There are many different colours available for a resin driveway. They can also be finished in many different ways and look great when installed with contrasting block paved edges. Another great thing about a Resin is the ability to add styles, designs and patterns.

Resin Surfacing Benefits

Resin surfacing, also known as resin-bound or resin-bonded surfacing, offers a range of benefits in various applications. Here are some of the key advantages:

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Resin surfacing is highly attractive and can be customised with a wide range of colours and decorative aggregates. This allows for the creation of visually appealing and unique surfaces that enhance the overall look of driveways, pathways, and other areas.
  • Permeability: Resin-bound surfacing is porous, allowing water to drain through the surface and into the ground. This natural drainage helps prevent puddling and reduces the risk of flooding, making it a sustainable and environmentally friendly choice.
  • Durability: Resin surfacing is known for its durability and can withstand heavy foot traffic and vehicle use. It is resistant to cracking and can last for many years with proper maintenance.
  • Low Maintenance: Once installed, resin surfaces require minimal maintenance. Regular sweeping and occasional pressure washing are usually sufficient to keep the surface clean and looking new.
  • Smooth Surface: Resin-bound surfaces are smooth and comfortable to walk or drive on. They are wheelchair-friendly and provide a safe and even surface for pedestrians.
  • UV Stability: High-quality resin products are UV stable, meaning they do not fade or discolour when exposed to sunlight. This helps maintain the surface’s appearance over time.
  • Customisation: Resin surfacing allows for creative design options, including patterns, borders, and logos. This versatility makes it suitable for both practical and decorative applications.
  • Quick Installation: Resin-bound surfaces can often be installed relatively quickly, reducing disruption to your property during the construction process.
  • Resistance to Weeds: The tightly bound nature of resin surfacing discourages weed growth, reducing the need for herbicides and ongoing weed maintenance.
  • Safety: Resin surfaces offer good slip resistance, making them safe for pedestrians and vehicles even in wet conditions. They are suitable for areas where safety is a concern, such as playgrounds and pool decks.
  • Noise Reduction: Resin-bound surfaces can help reduce noise levels compared to hard surfaces like concrete or asphalt, contributing to a quieter environment.
  • Eco-Friendly: The permeable nature of resin-bound surfacing promotes sustainable drainage and reduces the risk of water pollution. Additionally, some resin products are made with recycled materials.
  • Resin-Bonded Option: Resin-bonded surfacing, which involves adhering resin to an existing surface with decorative aggregates, offers a cost-effective way to improve the appearance and functionality of driveways and pathways.

What is the difference between Resin Bound & Resin Bond driveways?

Although they have very similar names, the look and finish of a resin-bound and resin bond driveway are very different.

A Resin Bound driveway is installed by mixing a bonding solution and the resin aggregate before laying the surface. This forms one solid, seamless surface with no loose aggregate.

A Resin bond driveway is more similar to a surface dressing, where the bond is laid onto the flat surface and the resin aggregate is placed on top of the bonding solution. Although the finishing is similar, a resin bond driveway has loose aggregate and require fewer materials to install.

Because the bonding solution is laid first there are no gaps for water to run through, meaning that resin bond driveways are not SUDS compliant.
